A Canoeing Adventure In Beautiful Canada

Of all the adventure holidays in the world, surely one of the best ways to travel is by canoe? Canada, perhaps more than any other destination, offers a range of picturesque rivers, lakes and waterways where you can get back to nature and explore in this unique way. It's certainly not the only way to get around these days, but it might provide you with a unique opportunity to experience this great country as the first European settlers saw it.

The majestic landscape

Canada is the second largest country, by land volume, on Earth. Much of the country remains wild in the sense it is undeveloped nature at its very best. That is one of the reasons why tourists flock here every year to see and experience the majesty of nature.

Having said that, it also needs to be acknowledged that getting around some of the magnificent natural areas isnt always easy. In many cases, roads are relatively few and far between, and in any case, cars and coaches somehow conflict with the idea of unspoilt nature.

So, one of the most enjoyable ways of getting around to explore "up close and personal" is by canoe. Canada boasts an immense and awe-inspiring landscape, and this is a healthy and environmentally friendly way to get about - in some locations, its also the only real way of doing so! Youre never likely to be able to get much closer to nature than in a canoe; Canada has some wonderful waterways and this will be a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.

But a holiday by canoe in Canada will not be a re-creation of those epic 17th and 18th century explorations. These trips conclude each day in a very comfortable lodge with great food and modern facilities. Youve also got plenty of destinations to choose from.

Ontario

To take just one example, Ontario is the country's most populated province but youd hardly believe it. Northern parts of the province are sparsely populated, and even the southern half contains vast areas of waterways along the border with the United States. Some of these are household names, such as Lake Huron and the St Lawrence River.

In fact, water plays such an important part of the landscape, history and culture here, that the canoe as a holiday experience will seem perfectly natural. Nor is this just a question of looking at water and trees as they pass by your canoe. Canada is also well-known for its incredible fauna and flora some of which are absolutely unique to Ontario and which you may have no better chance of seeing than if youre travelling by water.

For example, in the Algonquin Park there are an incredible 31 different species of reptiles and amphibians. Of those, nine are snake species but fortunately, none of them are venomous! Of course, you can also add to that the opportunity to see wolves, bears and moose under the watchful eye of experienced guides of your escorted tour.
